In a press release issued earlier today by the Lincoln Motor Company, the automaker announced that two of its models recently earned Top Safety Pick designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Lincoln MKZ earned Top Safety Pick status in the Midsize Luxury Car category, while the Lincoln MKX was chosen in the Midsize Luxury SUV category.
In order to earn as TSP designation, vehicles must earn the highest score of "good" in all five crashworthiness assessments. Additionally, they must offer an available forward crash prevention system that earns a score of "advanced" or "superior."
Both vehicles offer a suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features, including Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. The system leverages both camera and radar technology to monitor the vehicle's proximity to other cars and pedestrians. The system alerts the driver to an impending collision and, if needed, can even apply the brakes automatically.
Other advanced technologies include a lane-keeping assist system, and a blind-spot detection system.
