The Lincoln Motor Company ended 2016 with a 10 percent gain in United States sales, resulting in the company's best sales performance in nine years.

The double-digit gain comes in a year that saw overall sales for the luxury car segment increase by less than 1 percent. U.S. growth for Lincoln in 2016 was fueled by strong performance in important luxury markets like New York (up 13 percent), Florida (up 10 percent) and New Jersey (up 9 percent).

Lincoln finished the year strong, with December 2016 sales improving 18 percent over December 2015. Sales of the all-new 2017 Lincoln Continental propelled the month's performance, accounting for 64 percent of the brand's growth in December.

Lincoln Continental sales for December totaled 1,845 vehicles, up from November’s 1,419 vehicles sold, and outpaced both the Lexus GS and the Audi A6, according to sales data released by the respective manufacturers.

In a release, Kumar Galhotra, president, The Lincoln Motor Company, commented, “The momentum is both gratifying and encouraging. We’re pleased clients are recognizing the superior experiences and vehicles Lincoln offers.”
