Comparing 2017 Lincoln Navigator to 2016 GMC Yukon Denali

As with its Cadillac counterpart, the GMC Yukon Denali was completely redesigned for 2015. Changes for 2016 include the addition of Lane Keep Assist and automatic high beams to the Driver Alert Package. A hands-free power liftgate is now standard on SLT trim levels and all models now feature capless fuel fill capability. Befitting the Denali trim level, GMC's ultimate in luxurious appointments, Yukon Denali is well equipped and a worthy competitor of Lincoln Navigator.

Competitive Perception

The Yukon lineup delivers greater capability and greater refinement through new and enhanced chassis and suspension systems.

Lincoln Reality

While the chassis may have been improved, GM's full-size SUVs, including Yukon Denali and Cadillac Escalade, continue to use a solid-axle rear suspension. This old technology simply cannot match the greater traction, enhanced ride quality and improved handling of the independent multilink rear suspension on Navigator.

Competitive Perception

Yukon's distinctive Denali models provide an exclusive collection of design, performance and upscale interior amenities.

Lincoln Reality

It's true that GMC's premium package delivers higher levels of content and luxury over non-Denali GMC vehicles. However, Yukon Denali still falls short of the standard and available luxury complements in Lincoln Navigator. For example, power-retractable running boards and the Lincoln welcome mat are standard on Navigator. The welcome mat is not available and the other is an extra-cost option on Yukon Denali.

Competitive Perception

Yukon Denali's exclusive 6.2L engine makes the most power in the segment - 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, with a maximum conventional towing capacity of 8,100 lbs.(1)

Lincoln Reality

It's true that the 6.2L engine in Yukon Denali delivers more horsepower than the 3.5L GTDI V6 in Navigator. However, it's Navigator that comes out on top when it comes to towing capacity. Its 9,000 lbs.(1) bests Denali by 900 lbs.

(1) When properly equipped.

(2) Class is Luxury Premium Utilities based on Lincoln segmentation.
